Job Description

Job Description: We are seeking a Director of Business Development for North America, focused on the Voluntary Carbon Market and Sustainable Agriculture. This role involves independent operation as the primary team member in the U.S., driving sales of carbon credits, and securing project financing. The ideal candidate will have experience in the carbon market, familiarity with regenerative agriculture, and a proven track record working with agricultural or food companies. A strong self-starter attitude and ability to work remotely with international teams are essential. This position offers a dynamic startup environment with significant growth potential. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

As the Director of Business Development for North America focused on the Voluntary Carbon Market and Sustainable Agriculture, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our company's growth and impact in the fight against climate change. Your responsibilities will include: 

1.  Leading sales efforts for high quality carbon credits from regenerative agriculture, Afforestation and Biochar 

2. Actively pursuing project financing opportunities from banks and other financial institutions

3. Engaging with US-based food and agricultural companies for offsetting and insetting projects in their South-East-Asia and Sub-Saharan African Supply Chain 

4. Initiate, structure and lead interactions with US-based carbon credit buyers and investors, from initial conversations until negotiations and deal closures 

5. Handle the complex due diligence processes from buyers and investors, responding to their enquiries, and structuring the right collateral and materials to effectively showcase specific projects within the portfolio 

6. Actively participate in industry conferences, events, and forums to expand the network, build partnerships, and represent Varaha in the carbon finance and climate change community in the USA 

7. Implementing strategic projects, including market and company research, to support our expansion and operational efficiency.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience: 

Education: Advanced degree in Business, Agriculture, or related fields, with a focus on sustainability

Experience: 

1. At least 7 years of experience in corporate leadership, strategy consulting, investment banking, private equity or a related field, at a top global firm / Fortune 500 Company 

2. Preference for candidates with prior experience founding or working in leadership roles at startups

3. Proven track record in sales, finance, and partnership development in related industries

 4. Strong capability to work independently in a remote setting, coordinating with international teams

5. Preference for candidates with familiarity in nature-based removal methodologies and standards such as Regenerative Agriculture and Biochar 

6. Exceptional communication skills, adept in conveying complex market concepts 

7. Proficiency in data analysis, market research, and strategic project execution
